What does it mean to have a CEO mindset?

Some of us stumbled into being a business owner. Some of us jumped in cannonball style and embraced our potential as business owners right away.

Think of the CEO of a major corporation.

Are they doing everything in the business? Or is their primary purpose to have an aerial view of the business and make decisions that affect the long-term success of the business?

As small business owners, we have to wear a lot of hats and we juggle the majority of the tasks it takes to be successful.

But are we just keeping our heads above water? Or are we dedicating time, energy, and focus to building our capabilities as the leaders of our business?

CEOs don’t just work IN their business, they also work ON their business. They take the time to revisit their goals to see if their actions will support their progress toward them. They consistently look at the “big picture” and make adjustments.

When it comes to being the CEO of your business, your mindset is just as important as your business strategy skill set.

Let’s take some time to reflect on what a CEO mindset looks like in action.

Characteristics of a Strong CEO Mindset

  • Perseverance to keep trying even when you are faced with obstacles.
  • The understanding of a setback is simply information to guide future decisions.
  • Vision and looking forward to seeing how your day-to-day decisions will impact your long-term goals.
  • Courage to routinely try new ideas from a place of curiosity and not pressure.
  • Stop “playing small” and truly believe that any goal is achievable (and then find the resources to help you achieve it).
  • Being open to opportunities and taking them when they present themselves
  • Honoring boundaries you have put into place.
  • Regularly celebrate your successes and your wins
