Think Like a CEO: 9 Habits of a Successful Tutor

Building a tutoring business is not easy, but it is totally rewarding and it is totally worth it! To build a successful tutoring business, you want to think like a CEO. The key to this is establishing habits for success!

This is Part 2 of our CEO Mindset series. Dont miss Part 1: HOW TO CULTIVATE A CEO MINDSET

Here are 9 Habits of Successful Tutors Who Think Like CEOs:

1. Reflection

Do you take the time to reflect on what’s working and what’s not? We don’t want to get ourselves stuck in patterns that don’t serve us, don’t serve our business, and don’t serve our students.

If you build in some regular time to reflect on what is working and what is not, you can make timely changes to benefit your business.

2. Goal Setting

Rather than letting your business happen to you, set some goals.

Be sure to tie your goal setting into your regular reflection by taking a look at those goals to see how and when they might be attainable.

3. Scheduled Check-ins

We suggest doing this once a month, but if that feels hard, once a quarter will work, too. The key is to schedule it. Put it on the calendar. Then check in on how your business is doing. Look at your students and their progress, look at your schedule, look at your policies and procedures, look at your wins, and consider how you feel as far as your health and time.

4. Creating Routines

Once you’ve checked in on your business, you can begin to look at what you need to change or schedule in. Knowing this helps you to create routines that will feed your mind.

5. Building in Time to Learn

As educators, we know that we are never done learning. Be sure you are scheduling time to grow your skills professionally.

6. Building in Time to Connect with Other Business Owners

Look for online and local communities that you can connect with. We can learn a lot from how other people run their businesses.

7. Building in Time to Dedicate to Working on Your Business

It is crucial to dedicate time to work on your business each and every week. Give yourself the time you need to do the things that will help your business run more smoothly and grow if that is your goal.

8. Honoring Boundaries and Self-Care Needs

Being a business owner can be stressful and it can be hard to feel like you can turn it off or step away. Build time into your schedule to take care of yourself, whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual. Whatever it is you need to do, take care of yourself.

9. Hire Help

Hire out people to help with systems that are hard for you to be consistent with, like a bookkeeper. Great CEOs know what they can do and what they can’t do and they don’t hesitate to get the help they need in the areas where they need it.
